Streamlining Retail Sales Across the Capital

Delhi residents can now browse inventories, select preferred brands, and complete payments for liquor online prior to visiting a store, under a new initiative rolled out by the capital's civic administration. The Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) has launched the 'Delhi Liquor Booking' mobile application to modernise retail sales, reduce congestion outside storefronts, and bring transparency to billing.

While the digital system allows buyers to secure their preferred stock in advance, officials emphasized that home delivery is not part of the service. Customers must complete the final leg of the transaction by physically visiting designated outlets to collect their purchases.

How the Digital Booking System Operates

The application is currently active across 208 liquor outlets managed directly by the DSIIDC. To use the service, buyers must follow a structured procedure:

* Stock Verification: Customers log into the app to check real-time stock availability across participating stores before initiating an order. * Selection and Payment: Buyers choose a specific retail location, select their preferred brand, bottle size, and quantity, and execute the payment digitally within the app. * QR Code Generation: A secure QR code is generated upon successful payment completion. * Physical Collection: The buyer must visit the selected store within a strict 48-hour window and present the QR code to staff for scanning and handover.

Officials noted that this mechanism is specifically designed to eliminate the uncertainty of finding a preferred brand out of stock upon arrival at a retail counter.

Regulatory Compliance and Purchase Limits

Strict adherence to Delhi's excise regulations remains mandatory for all app users. Buyers must be a minimum of 25 years of age to access the platform. Furthermore, existing legal purchase limits continue to apply without exception; individuals are restricted to buying a maximum of nine litres of whisky and 18 litres of beer per transaction.

While the application accommodates order cancellations prior to collection, returned bottles are strictly prohibited once a sale has been finalised and picked up from the premises.

Market Response and Future Expansion

DSIIDC is one of four government corporations authorised to manage retail liquor sales across Delhi, collectively operating over 700 shops. The remaining stores are run by the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC), the Delhi State Civil Supplies Corporation (DSCSC), and the Delhi Consumers' Cooperative Wholesale Store (DCCWS).

At present, the online booking facility is exclusively restricted to DSIIDC's 208 locations. Initial administrative reports indicate a modest public response to the rollout. Officials stated that any future expansion of the digital platform to other state-run corporations or additional outlets will depend entirely on consumer adoption rates in the coming weeks.
