A 27-year-old BJP worker was brutally murdered in Malda's English Bazar, sparking violent clashes and drawing sharp political accusations.

Tragedy Strikes Malda
A 27-year-old worker affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was brutally stabbed and shot dead in the Ramkeli area under the English Bazar police station jurisdiction in West Bengal’s Malda district on Tuesday. The brazen attack has sent shockwaves through the region, igniting political friction and subsequent unrest.
The victim, identified as Sameer Ghosh, was targeted by assailants who reportedly ensured his death by firing at his body after the stabbing. The incident triggered severe unrest and violent clashes in the area on Wednesday evening, resulting in multiple injuries among local residents as tensions boiled over.
Family and Party Allegations
Following the tragedy, the victim's family has openly blamed the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) for the murder. A formal police complaint has been registered against a local Trinamool worker, Shatru Ghosh, and his associates.
According to the victim's brother, Vivek Ghosh, Sameer Ghosh was targeted due to a long-standing political feud with members of the Trinamool Congress.
Local political leaders have strongly condemned the killing. Englishbazar Assembly MLA and state officials echoed the family's sentiments, asserting that the attack was politically motivated. Local BJP representatives gathered to pay their final respects, draping party flags over the victim's mortal remains.
Police Response and Security Measures
Malda District Superintendent of Police Anupam Singh confirmed that law enforcement has apprehended one suspect, identified as Ranjan Ghosh, in connection with the homicide. Authorities are actively searching for the firearm used in the crime and conducting raids to track down the remaining suspects.
In the wake of Wednesday's violent clashes, heavy police deployments and central security forces have been stationed across the area to maintain public order and prevent further escalation. Authorities have urged restraint as the investigation continues.
