Strategic Monitoring of Tehran Meetings

India is keeping a close watch on significant geopolitical shifts in the region, including high-level diplomatic discussions in Tehran that involve officials from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Pakistan, and Iran. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed New Delhi's vigilant stance during a media briefing on Wednesday.

Responding to queries regarding the implications of the Tehran meetings, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized India's proactive diplomatic monitoring.

"We closely follow all significant geopolitical developments taking place in the region that have a bearing on our interests," Jaiswal stated.

The discussions in the Iranian capital have reportedly centered on regional de-escalation, including efforts to secure a ceasefire between Saudi Arabia and Yemen's Houthi movement, with Tehran acting as a facilitator. Diplomatic sources and regional media reports have also indicated discussions surrounding financial proposals to halt hostilities, though key financial figures remain unverified independently.

Stand on Maldives and Regional Partnerships

Addressing separate geopolitical concerns regarding the Maldives and its burgeoning ties with Islamabad following Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu's recent visit, the MEA reiterated the bedrock of India's foreign policy in the Indian Ocean.

"Our relationship with the Maldives is anchored in our Neighbourhood First policy and the SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision," Jaiswal noted, reinforcing New Delhi's perspective of Male as a vital regional partner.

India remains committed to fostering mutually beneficial and friendly relations with the island nation while maintaining a watchful eye on any developments that might influence national security.

Unchanged Policy on Pakistan

On the broader diplomatic front concerning Pakistan, the MEA made it clear that New Delhi's core policy remains entirely unaltered in the wake of the Pulwama terror attack and subsequent developments.

When asked about any potential review of India's diplomatic engagement strategy toward Islamabad, the spokesperson was unequivocal: "That policy remains unchanged and firmly in place."

Diplomatic representation between the two nations has remained constrained, with India having kept High Commissioner-level representation absent in Islamabad for nearly a decade.
