Pre-Festival Crackdown on Adulteration

Ahead of the peak festive season, food safety authorities in Uttar Pradesh launched a major enforcement drive targeting establishments compromising public health. In a recent operation conducted at Tirupati Bengali Sweets, enforcement teams seized and subsequently destroyed a massive cache of substandard dairy products.

The raid, aimed at curbing the sale of adulterated food items during Diwali celebrations when demand for traditional sweets surges, resulted in the confiscation of approximately 650 kilograms of chenna-based sweets and ready-to-eat gulab jamuns.

Action by Food Safety Officials

According to officials, the seized sweets—estimated to be valued at around Rs 97,000—failed basic quality and hygiene parameters. Given the imminent risk to public health posed by the consumption of expired or improperly prepared dairy goods, authorities ordered the immediate destruction of the entire stock on-site.

Local authorities have intensified inspections across sweet shops, bakeries, and wholesale markets throughout the region. Officials emphasized that rigorous checks will continue throughout the festive period to ensure compliance with food safety regulations and to protect consumers from health hazards associated with adulterated food products.
