Political Backlash Intensifies Following Prison Escapes

Chennai — DMK President and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has escalated his verbal attack on Chief Minister Vijay's administration, deploying a sharp pop-culture critique following a major jailbreak incident in the state's Theni district.

Stalin remarked that the state has transitioned from a "Breaking Bad" scenario to a "Prison Break" reality, pointing to severe administrative lapses within the prison department. The critique follows an incident where 17 undertrial prisoners escaped from the Thekkampatti Sub-Jail in Theni, marking one of the most daring mass escapes in the state since 1995.

Security Concerns Prompt Sharp Criticism

The latest security breach comes on the heels of another high-profile escape, in which two inmates broke out of the Puzhal prison on the outskirts of Chennai. The consecutive incidents have placed the state's prison administration under intense public and political scrutiny.

"Following Breaking Bad, a Prison Break has now begun in Tamil Nadu," Stalin stated in a public address. He criticized the administration for failing to monitor even those held securely inside correctional facilities, noting that such breaches are unacceptable given modern security and surveillance infrastructure.

Pointing out the deteriorating law-and-order situation, Stalin branded the ruling TVK administration as "good for nothing," adding that criminals operate freely outside while inmates easily breach confinement from within.

Opposition and Allied Parties Weigh In

Other political leaders have also condemned the state government's handling of law enforcement. AIADMK Chief Edappadi K Palaniswami expressed deep shock over the administration's failure to tighten security despite the prior Puzhal prison escape.

Meanwhile, DMK leader TKS Elangovan joined the chorus of criticism, questioning the competence of the prison guards and demanding an inquiry into whether the escaped inmates had affiliations with the ruling party leadership.

With the Home Department operating directly under Chief Minister Vijay, the mounting pressure from the opposition highlights a growing political crisis over state security and administrative governance.
