Coordinated Crackdown Across Three States

In a massive blow to cross-border drug syndicates, anti-narcotics agencies launched coordinated simultaneous operations across 38 locations in Assam, Mizoram, and Manipur, successfully dismantling an international narco-cartel. Designated as 'Operation Trident', the extensive sweep led to the arrest of 18 individuals allegedly involved in transnational narcotics trafficking.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the breakthrough, highlighting the synchronized nature of the raids conducted on October 23. The operation targeted key logistics and financial nodes of a criminal network operating through the sensitive tri-border region connecting India, Myanmar, and Bangladesh—frequently referred to by security agencies as the 'Death Triangle Corridor'.

Dismantling Financial Networks and Seizures

According to details shared by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the crackdown went beyond physical drug seizures, striking heavily at the financial infrastructure supporting the syndicate. Investigators uncovered hawala transactions valued at approximately Rs 100 crore.

As part of the financial interdiction: - 1,424 bank accounts linked to the syndicate have been frozen. - Properties worth Rs 17.82 crore acquired through illicit proceeds have been formally attached. - 500 detonators and Rs 12 lakh in cash were recovered during the multi-state raids.

Security analysts note that the inclusion of explosives points to the cartel's dangerous intersections with militant and anti-national elements operating along India's porous eastern frontiers.

A Strategic Push Toward a Drug-Free India

The execution of 'Operation Trident' aligns with the Union government's overarching national security framework. Earlier, addressing the Police Commemoration Day in New Delhi, Home Minister Shah outlined a rigorous three-and-a-half-year roadmap aimed at completely eradicating the drug menace from the country by December 31, 2029.

Emphasizing the gravity of the crisis, the Home Ministry reiterated that the illegal narcotics trade not only compromises future generations and places an unsustainable burden on the national economy but also serves as the primary funding channel for subversive organizations.

Joint teams comprising central intelligence agencies, anti-narcotics task forces, and the state police forces of Assam, Mizoram, and Manipur have been commended for their seamless operational coordination. Federal authorities indicate that further arrests and asset seizures are likely as forensic analysis of the frozen accounts and seized digital devices progresses.
