Brutal Assault Shocks Ludhiana

LUDHIANA — In a horrifying incident that has sent shockwaves through Punjab, a man was brutally murdered in broad daylight on Monday, with his attackers severing his hand and leaving it in a plastic bag at a local grocery store. The primary suspect in the grisly crime has been swiftly apprehended by local law enforcement.

The victim, identified as Shakti Singh, also known as Bhura, was targeted by a group of five to six armed men who barged into a residential property near the Redu Sahib gurdwara. According to preliminary reports from the police, the assailants were armed with swords and other sharp-edged weapons. During the onslaught, the attackers also assaulted the homeowner who attempted to intervene and protect Singh.

Gruesome Message Left Behind

After inflicting fatal injuries, the perpetrators severed Singh's hand from the wrist, placed it inside a polythene bag, and carried it to a nearby grocery shop located in Satguru Nagar. Witnesses reported that the attackers instructed the shopkeeper to deliver the macabre package directly to the victim's family before fleeing the scene.

Singh, a resident of Ludhiana's Basant Nagar locality, was rushed to a nearby hospital by responders, but succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

Police Investigation and Criminal Backgrounds

Ludhiana Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Roop Deep Kaur confirmed that the main accused, identified as Gurmit Singh CD, has been taken into custody. A specialized police team immediately secured the crime scene and initiated a comprehensive investigation.

Preliminary findings by the police suggest that the brutal murder may be the result of a long-standing personal feud. Investigators revealed that the deceased victim was facing approximately 12 criminal cases. Disturbingly, initial background checks indicate that the suspects involved in the attack also carry extensive criminal records, with a similar number of pending cases against each.

Authorities are currently scanning high-resolution CCTV footage from the surrounding neighborhoods to identify and track down the remaining suspects who fled the scene.

Rising Concerns Over Law and Order

The violent episode adds to a growing string of high-profile violent crimes reported across Punjab ahead of the upcoming state elections, raising serious concerns regarding law and order in the region. Recent days have seen multiple violent confrontations, including a fatal shooting in Amritsar following a parking dispute and the killing of an anti-drug activist in the Mansa district.
