Red Sea Incident Unfolds

NEW DELHI / SANA'A — The Indian Embassy in Yemen has announced it is actively verifying reports concerning 14 Indian nationals aboard a yacht off the coast of Yemen. The development follows claims by Houthi military forces that they intervened to rescue the individuals after alleged targeting by Saudi forces near Zuqar Island in the southern Red Sea.

According to statements released by Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree, the vessel came under fire in what was described as a reckless action threatening international navigation lanes. However, these claims remain unverified by independent sources.

Responding to the unfolding situation, the Indian diplomatic mission issued a statement via social media confirming its outreach.

"We have seen reports regarding an incident involving 14 Indian nationals on board a yacht off the coast of Yemen today. We are ascertaining further details about the incident and will provide all possible help for ensuring the safety and well-being of the Indian nationals," the Indian Embassy in Yemen stated.

Escalating Regional Security Concerns

The maritime incident comes on the heels of a deadly security breach in neighboring Saudi Arabia. Just a day prior, an attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam resulted in two fatalities—including one Indian national—and left two other Indian citizens injured.

India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) strongly condemned the recent wave of strikes targeting civilian and energy infrastructure across Saudi Arabia, which included the Dammam airport assault and an attack on Saudi Aramco's Shaybah oil field.

"We strongly condemn the continued attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia... These attacks have unfortunately resulted in civilian deaths and injuries," the MEA said in an official briefing, expressing solidarity with Saudi authorities and calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities affecting civil zones.

As diplomatic channels work to ascertain the condition of the 14 nationals involved in the Red Sea yacht incident, Indian authorities remain on high alert across the region to ensure citizen safety amidst intensifying geopolitical flashpoints.
