Bihar Political Crisis: JD(U) Expels Mokama MLA Anant Singh and Former Legislator Neelam Devi Over Anti-Party Activities
Janata Dal (United) has expelled MLA Anant Singh and ex-legislator Neelam Devi for six years following open defiance and support for a rival candidate in council polls.

Disciplinary Action Deepens Political Tensions in Patna
The ruling Janata Dal (United) in Bihar has taken strict disciplinary action against prominent don-turned-politician Anant Singh and former legislator Neelam Devi, expelling both from the party for six years. The announcement comes in the wake of escalating internal friction and open rebellion during the recent legislative council elections.
According to an official statement issued by JD(U) Bihar unit president Umesh Singh Kushwaha, the primary membership of Mokama MLA Anant Singh was terminated with immediate effect. The party cited blatant defiance of organizational directives, the use of derogatory language against senior leadership, and active campaigning for a rival political entity.
Open Revolt in Legislative Council Polls
The rift widened significantly when Anant Singh openly revolted against the party line, throwing his political weight behind Jan Suraaj Party candidate Anuj Singh for the Bihar Legislative Council elections. The controversial leader had publicly vowed to defeat JD(U) incumbent MLC Neeraj Kumar, openly canvassing for the rival camp in a direct challenge to the party's leadership.
In tandem with his expulsion, the JD(U) leadership has formally recommended to the Bihar Legislative Speaker that Anant Singh's assembly membership be terminated under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution, which governs anti-defection measures.
Wider Fallout
Simultaneously, the party announced the immediate termination of the primary membership of Neelam Devi, an ex-legislator and close associate, citing her active involvement in parallel anti-party activities.
The swift punitive measures underscore the JD(U)'s zero-tolerance approach toward internal dissent as political alignments shift across Bihar ahead of upcoming electoral battles.
