Investigation Underway After First Arrest in High-Profile Conspiracy Case

NEW DELHI / BENGALURU — In a major development in an ongoing political controversy, the Bengaluru Police's Central Crime Branch (CCB) has made its first arrest in connection with a controversial sting operation video targeting former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

The accused, identified as Ritesh Pandey, was apprehended in Delhi and promptly transported to Bengaluru for intensive interrogation. According to official sources, investigators are currently probing Pandey's links to a second-hand mobile phone suspected to have been utilized to upload the contentious video onto social media platforms.

Following his interrogation, Pandey was produced before a metropolitan magistrate court in Bengaluru, which granted him bail on the condition that he fully cooperate with the ongoing police investigation.

Legal Battle and Concocted Allegations

Last month, two separate videos containing severe allegations against Siddaramaiah surfaced on YouTube, triggering immediate political shockwaves. In response to the digital release, the senior Congress leader approached the judiciary and secured an official injunction barring the press from broadcasting or publishing the contents of the videos. Siddaramaiah subsequently lodged a formal police complaint, demanding a comprehensive, transparent probe to uncover the masterminds behind what he termed a calculated conspiracy.

Speaking on the developments, Siddaramaiah vehemently dismissed the alleged sting operation as "totally concocted," asserting that the entire episode was orchestrated solely with the intent to blackmail him politically.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge expressed absolute confidence in the state's law enforcement agencies. Kharge noted that it is only a matter of time before the perpetrators are fully exposed.

"Whoever is involved in the criminal conspiracy, where it took place, how it happened, who conducted the sting operation, why it was conducted, how the material came into someone's hands after so many years, how it was suddenly uploaded, and how it was publicised—all these aspects will be investigated," Kharge stated while addressing reporters.

Intra-Party Involvement Suspected

Adding a complex dimension to the probe, Siddaramaiah's son and state minister, Yathindra Siddaramaiah, has publicly alleged that members from within their own party, the Congress, engineered the purported sting operation to tarnish his father's public standing.

Yathindra claimed that digital material related to the incident points toward the potential involvement of a female Congress member aspiring for an election ticket from Puttur, alongside the head of a prominent media organization.

Addressing these internal allegations, Home Minister Kharge confirmed that several individuals whose names surfaced during the preliminary inquiry have already been summoned and questioned.

"It is quite clear who is involved and what has happened. There is no need for me to spell it out separately. We have summoned people involved and questioned them... Everyone whose name has been mentioned in the case has already been subjected to investigation," Kharge emphasized, assuring the public that the probe is proceeding free from any political interference or pressure.

As the CCB continues to analyze digital trails, forensic data, and mobile device metadata, authorities expect further breakthroughs in the coming days to establish the full chain of custody and distribution behind the viral videos.
