Assam CM Weighs In on National Political Debate
NEW DELHI — Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has strongly endorsed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent criticism of the Congress party, echoing concerns over the opposition's ongoing reliance on Rahul Gandhi despite persistent electoral setbacks.
Speaking on the sidelines of a major national policy summit in New Delhi, Sarma voiced agreement with the Prime Minister's assessment of the domestic political landscape. He argued that the principal opposition party continues to rely on a singular leadership model that has repeatedly failed to secure decisive electoral mandates.
The 'Relaunch' Analogy
Elaborating on his critique, Sarma used a commercial analogy to describe the opposition's political strategy. He claimed that the Congress leadership persistently attempts to market the same political figure through continuous rebranding efforts without changing the substance of their leadership approach.
"Yes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is absolutely right. Congress seems to have only one product to present before the country," Sarma stated. "Despite repeated failures, the party continues to relaunch him, hoping for a different outcome. However, the product remains the same, and the relaunch attempts continue to fall short."
The Assam Chief Minister further contended that voters grow fatigued by repetitive political campaigns that fail to offer fresh alternatives or substantive shifts in policy direction.
Foreign Travel and Political Engagement
In addition to questioning the party's electoral strategy, Sarma renewed allegations concerning Rahul Gandhi's periodic foreign travels. He claimed that the senior Congress leader frequently steps away from active domestic campaigning during crucial political cycles, a pattern he argued demonstrates a lack of sustained engagement with the electorate.
The remarks follow Prime Minister Modi's wide-ranging address at the capital's policy summit, where the Prime Minister contrasted global aspirations for stability against domestic political approaches that he characterized as disruptive.
Political analysts note that Sarma's sharp rhetoric underscores the ruling party's concerted effort to keep the focus on leadership credentials and opposition vulnerabilities as key states look ahead to upcoming electoral contests.
