India and US Nearing Completion of Bilateral Trade Pact, Says Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal announces that India and the US have concluded most discussions on a bilateral trade agreement and are currently fine-tuning the final pact.

Diplomatic Momentum in The Hague
India and the United States have successfully concluded the majority of discussions concerning their proposed bilateral trade agreement and are currently fine-tuning the final framework of the pact, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced on Monday.
Speaking at the India-Netherlands Business Forum in The Hague during his two-day official visit alongside a high-level business delegation, Goyal emphasized that negotiations have advanced significantly despite prevailing global tariff uncertainties.
"We have concluded most of the discussions and are fine-tuning the agreement," Goyal told the gathered business leaders and diplomats, pointing toward a near-term resolution of long-standing trade deliberations.
Broadening Global Economic Engagement
During his address, the Commerce Minister underscored India's aggressive pursuit of international trade integration. He highlighted that New Delhi has successfully concluded nine free trade agreements over the past four and a half years, reinforcing the nation's position as a reliable global economic partner.
The positive outlook on the India-US trade arrangement echoes recent remarks from senior American officials. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated days prior that only a minimal number of outstanding issues remain to be resolved, expressing optimism that the landmark pact could be finalized shortly for executive sign-off.
Navigating Tariff and Market Access Complexities
Both nations have spent upwards of a year navigating complex negotiations designed to substantially broaden bilateral market access. The comprehensive arrangement aims to systematically resolve protracted differences concerning agricultural commodities, industrial merchandise, and regulatory compliance barriers.
While the foundational framework for the first phase of the Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) was officially finalized in February, subsequent shifts in the global and US tariff landscapes prompted both negotiating teams to re-engage and recalibrate terms to ensure long-term economic stability and mutual benefit.
