Daring Escape Rocks Theni District

Law enforcement agencies in Tamil Nadu have launched a massive manhunt across the rugged terrain of the Theni district following a dramatic mass jailbreak from the Thekkampatti Sub-Jail. Seventeen undertrial prisoners successfully broke out of custody after orchestrating a calculated diversion that involved feigning a medical emergency.

According to preliminary investigations by police, the breakout was triggered when at least one of the inmates faked a severe epileptic seizure. When jail personnel rushed to provide assistance and secure the situation, the inmates overwhelmed the staff, resulting in injuries to at least one police officer before scaling the facility's security perimeter.

Manhunt Underway in Dense Forests

South Zone Inspector General of Police Bidari confirmed that intensive combing operations are currently underway. Special police teams have been deployed to scour the dense, challenging forest belts surrounding Thekkampatti where the escapees are suspected to be hiding.

"We are confident we will secure all of them," IG Bidari stated, outlining the aggressive containment strategy currently in motion.

Authorities have established heavily manned checkposts at 16 strategic points across the region to cut off potential escape routes and prevent the fugitives from crossing district boundaries.

Profile of the Escapees

Police records indicate that the group of 17 escapees consists predominantly of young adults aged between 19 and 26. The individuals were facing a range of serious criminal charges, including attempt to murder and various drug-related offences. They hail from several districts across Tamil Nadu, including Madurai, Sivagangai, Ramanathapuram, Salem, Kanniyakumari, and Theni.

Prompt action by local police led to the swift apprehension of four of the escapees, who have been identified as Praveen Kumar, Silambarasan, Rajkumar, and Raja Sikander. Intensive efforts continue to track down the remaining 13 fugitives.

Security Audit Initiated

The audacious escape has sent shockwaves through the state's prison administration, prompting an immediate internal inquiry. Authorities are examining potential security lapses, protocol failures, and supervision gaps that enabled the inmates to execute the elaborate ruse. Higher-ups have directed all district units to remain on high alert as the search enters its critical phase.
