Emergency Closure Triggers Major Traffic Diversions

Commuters traveling between the Indira Gandhi International Airport and Vasant Vihar in the national capital faced severe traffic disruptions following the sudden emergency closure of a major flyover connector. The disruption stems from structural damage discovered at multiple locations on the Old Rao Tula Ram (RTR) Flyover, prompting immediate intervention by civic authorities.

According to official updates, transit police and the Public Works Department (PWD) moved swiftly to restrict access after visible concrete deterioration, surface cracks, and exposed reinforcement bars were identified within the gap slab sections of the structure. Officials noted that keeping even a partial carriageway open posed unacceptable safety risks, necessitating a complete shutdown of the affected stretch.

PWD Mobilizes Repair Teams

Repair and rehabilitation operations are currently underway, with PWD engineering teams working in coordination with traffic enforcement units to restore structural integrity. While initial estimates suggested the carriageway would remain restricted through October 25, authorities have cautioned that vehicular movement will only resume once safety clearances are officially certified.

Traffic personnel have been deployed extensively across strategic junctions to regulate movement and assist motorists navigating the bottlenecked service roads. Digital mapping services, including navigation platforms, have been updated in real-time to reflect the ongoing closures and mandatory detours.

Advisory and Alternative Routes

Interstate transit authorities, including the Gurugram Traffic Police, have issued comprehensive advisories for commuters traveling from neighboring regions toward the capital.

* From Jaipur/Gurugram: Motorists entering Delhi are being redirected from the RTR Flyover toward Dhaula Kuan or advised to utilize alternative corridors such as NH-48 and the KMP Expressway. * Alternative Corridors: Suggested alternate pathways include the Narsinghpur Cloverleaf, Dwarka Expressway, UER-II route, Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), Ghatta T-Point, and the Mandi Border. * Airport-Bound Traffic: Authorities have explicitly clarified that NH-48 toward Mahipalpur should strictly be utilized by passenger vehicles heading directly to the airport. General motorists looking to access Mahipalpur are advised to follow designated detour markings to prevent further congestion.
