BAPS Monk and Israeli PM Honor Indian Pilot Smit Machchhar for Heroism Aboard flydubai Flight
Senior BAPS spiritual leader Brahmavihari Swami and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have praised Indian pilot Smit Machchhar for thwarting a major crisis aboard a flydubai flight.

International Recognition for Exceptional Courage
Indian pilot Smit Machchhar continues to draw high-level international praise for his decisive actions during a security incident aboard a flydubai flight earlier this month. Senior spiritual figures and global leaders have stepped forward to commend the pilot's bravery, which averted what officials have described as a potentially catastrophic escalation.
Speaking at a prominent global summit, Brahmavihari Swami, international spokesperson for the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) and head of the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi, expressed deep admiration for Captain Machchhar. He stated that the pilot's rapid response averted far-reaching geopolitical consequences.
"It's not just saving so many lives, I think he saved a world war. Had something like this happened, countries would have gone berserk," Brahmavihari Swami remarked, adding that the pilot's actions embodied the true essence of humanity in the face of terrorism.
The spiritual leader also revealed that a fellow flydubai pilot had recently visited the Abu Dhabi temple to offer prayers for Captain Machchhar. He announced plans to host a special ceremony at the Mandir for the pilot and his family once Machchhar is fully recovered and able to visit.
Diplomatic Honors From Israel
Captain Machchhar's heroic intervention has also garnered formal recognition from the highest levels of the Israeli government. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly extended an invitation to the Indian pilot to participate in Israel's Independence Day celebrations.
In a statement shared via social media, Netanyahu detailed a conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting that he had invited Modi to light a ceremonial torch alongside the brave Indian pilot. According to the Israeli leader, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that both nations stand united against terrorism across land and air while highlighting bilateral ties.
The invitation follows an earlier announcement from Israeli President Isaac Herzog, who formally invited Captain Machchhar to Israel to receive the prestigious Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism.
Security Context
While specific operational details surrounding the incident aboard the flydubai flight remain under review by aviation and security authorities, officials have confirmed that Captain Machchhar sustained serious injuries while protecting passengers from a targeted threat. The incident has triggered widespread international solidarity, underscoring the vital role of frontline aviation professionals in maintaining global transport security.
