Investigation Leads to Chennai Tech Professional

Law enforcement authorities have arrested a software employee from Chennai in connection with a massive wave of bomb threats targeting critical infrastructure, including airports, across India. The accused, identified as Sharad Subramanyan, was taken into custody following an extensive cyber and jurisdictional investigation spearheaded by the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport police station in Hyderabad.

According to senior police officials, Subramanyan allegedly created multiple fake email accounts to dispatch between 700 and 800 threatening messages nationwide over a multi-year period. The operation prompted extensive security sweeps, heightened alerts, and massive investigative efforts by law enforcement agencies across multiple states.

Motive Tied to Personal Distress and Political Grievances

Assistant Commissioner of Police Srikant Goud of Shamshabad revealed that investigators are closely examining the suspect's background and psychological state. Preliminary interrogations indicate that Subramanyan, who completed postgraduate studies and spent several years working in the United States, faced a severe personal crisis following a divorce, which reportedly pushed him into a state of depression.

Investigators stated that the accused confessed to harboring strong negative opinions against the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government in Tamil Nadu. Authorities believe these grievances, compounded by his personal distress and exposure to politically charged online content, served as the primary catalyst for the criminal activity.

"Driven by stress and negative opinions he developed against the DMK government after watching various videos, he created fake email IDs and sent nearly 700 to 800 bomb threat emails across India to prompt serious actions and investigations against DMK leaders," ACP Goud explained during a press briefing.

Rising Wave of Hoax Cases

Police records indicate that the fallout from the digital threats has strained security apparatuses significantly. Investigators have linked dozens of formal cases to the suspect within specific operational windows, registering 25 cases in 2025 and 17 cases in 2026 at the airport police station alone, bringing the localized tally to 42 active cases.

Law enforcement agencies are currently working to formalize and regularize all connected cases across different jurisdictions while recording the accused's formal confession. Cyber cell units are also reviewing the digital footprint to ensure no co-conspirators were involved in the massive dissemination of the hoax messages.
