Investigation Underway After Bank Employee Arrested for Employment Fraud

HAMIRPUR: Local authorities in Himachal Pradesh have arrested a bank employee accused of orchestrating a major recruitment fraud scheme that targeted unemployed youths across the state. The accused, who reportedly works as a peon at a financial institution in the Hamirpur district, allegedly swindled approximately Rs 20 lakh by falsely promising secure government positions.

According to officials at the Sadar Police Station, multiple non-bailable warrants had been issued against the suspect by courts in Rampur, Hamirpur, and Jhanduta. Law enforcement apprehended the accused on October 24, and she is currently undergoing intensive interrogation to uncover the full scope of the operation.

The fraudulent activities came to light following a formal complaint filed by a young victim, according to Hamirpur Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rajesh Kumar. Since the initial report, investigators have received a wave of similar complaints from several other individuals and families.

False Promises and Bounced Cheques

Investigators revealed that the suspect targeted job seekers not only in Hamirpur but also extended her operations to the Palampur and Rampur regions. Victims were reportedly coerced into paying large sums of money in exchange for assurances of guaranteed government employment.

When the promised job placements failed to materialize, distressed victims began demanding immediate refunds. To stall the mounting pressure, the accused allegedly issued cheques to the complainants. However, these financial instruments bounced due to insufficient funds in her bank account.

Police are currently examining financial records and expanding the probe to determine whether additional individuals were complicit in the recruitment scam.
