Multiple Vehicles Damaged in Rear-End Collision

NEW DELHI — Several party workers and security personnel sustained injuries on Tuesday after five vehicles belonging to the rear section of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's convoy collided with an ambulance on the Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh.

Local law enforcement confirmed that Rahul Gandhi escaped unhurt in the incident, which occurred near Haliyapur, approximately 100 kilometers from the state capital, Lucknow.

Visuals and preliminary site assessments from the location indicated that the collision involved multiple vehicles, including a heavily damaged SUV whose front hood suffered a severe impact after coming to a halt near the ambulance in the fast lane.

Journey to Sultanpur Court

At the time of the accident, Gandhi's convoy was traveling from the Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow toward Sultanpur, located roughly 135 kilometers away. The collision took place when the entourage was approximately 35 kilometers short of its destination.

Gandhi's scheduled arrival in Sultanpur was necessitated by a pending court appearance before a special MP-MLA court. The proceedings involved a defamation case stemming from remarks allegedly made against senior political figures during a 2018 campaign rally in Bengaluru ahead of the Karnataka assembly elections. The complaint had been filed by a local political leader in August 2018.

Despite the disruption caused by the multi-vehicle pileup, security personnel and local administration managed the situation swiftly, allowing the senior political leader to proceed toward the scheduled legal proceedings.
