Unexpected Windfall in Kotkapura

A routine evening errand has transformed the financial reality of a labourer's family in Punjab's Faridkot district. Bimla Devi, a resident of Kotkapura, purchased a lottery ticket for a mere Rs 7, ultimately securing the grand prize of Rs 1 crore in the Sikkim government lottery.

The life-changing turn of events unfolded when Devi visited Railway Road for minor household purchases. On her way, she decided to stop at the Star Lottery Stall, located near the local railway station, and bought a single ticket. Just a day later, when the official draw results were announced, she discovered that her modest Rs 7 investment had matched the top prize.

Celebration at the Local Stall

News of the massive win quickly spread through the neighborhood, bringing neighbours and local residents to the lottery stall to congratulate the family. Naresh Monga, the owner of the Star Lottery Stall, celebrated the milestone by distributing sweets to visiting locals and performing traditional bhangra outside his shop.

Monga shared that he has been operating the lottery business at the location for six months. While smaller cash prizes had previously been claimed by customers buying tickets from his establishment, this marks the first time a major Rs 1 crore jackpot has been won through his stall.

Securing a Better Future

Speaking on the windfall, Devi noted that the unexpected prize money arrives as a crucial relief for her family, helping them navigate ongoing financial hardships. While the family is yet to finalize their long-term plans for the funds, they intend to pool their decisions together and potentially invest in a business venture to secure a stable future and better educational opportunities for their children.
